Filming Skills Practice

In this task we practised filming and explored different camera angles and shots. We used a tripod in order for the camera to be still. The first is a mid tracking shot - to improve, we would slow down the movement of the camera to make it more consistent. The second is a close up of the ticking clock, in which you can see my reflection. To improve, I would adjust the lighting and camera so that I would not be visible - however, I am satisfied with this as I filmed a lot of footage, as opposed to our preliminary task, in which we were missing a shot. Thirdly is a long shot, which we filmed by placing the camera tripod on a table - we had to film this a few times so that it was not shaky. Lastly, is an extreme close up of my hand - we had to make sure of the continuity, as the book on my lap had to be in the same position as in the earlier shot.

Preliminary Task

For the preliminary task, I worked with Ashleagh and Ellie. We showed Ashleagh walking into a room, sitting down and having a conversation with me. We used the technique shot reverse shot, which proved challenging as we had to try and keep the camera at a similar angle and position after filming the opposite person. I learnt to shoot as much footage as possible (which I will apply to my final piece) because of our continuity error when Ashleagh reaches the door but the camera cuts before she opens it. Overall, this task was successful as the camera was steady and the editing was consistent.

Animatic

My animatic, which, to make, I drew separate images on a whiteboard and put together using iMovie, depicts the main character happily getting out of her bed and getting ready, then the sub main character contrastingly turning off his alarm clock in an aggressive manner. It also features the embedded titles. This will be helpful when filming as there are lots of short yet detailed shots in my opening two minutes.
